In the lead-up to Carnival 2014 the NGC Bocas Lit Fest is offering the chance for budding lyricists and poets to practice the art of songwriting.
Connect with calypso on Trinidad and Tobago’s 100 year anniversary of the first vocal calypso recording. Master of the calypso lyric and extempo performance Short Pants will lead the way in a three-hour workshop to explore writing lyrics to tell our stories and to uncover the craft behind T&T’s winning Carnival songs.

What do calypso and poetry have in common?
Songs, prose and poetry are all expressions of ideas and emotions. This workshop will explore various aspects of the lyric, demonstrating how it may be used effectively to help participants improve the quality of their lyrics.
This workshop is ideal for poets, songwriters, journalists, students, calypsonians and members of the public who have creative interest in the written and spoken word.
Venue: National Library of Trinidad and Tobago, Port of Spain.
Facilitator: Short Pants, two-time finalist in the National Extempo Competition and facilitator of the annual TUCO calypso-writing workshops.
