There are periods in human history that seem stranger than fiction, and we’re now in the middle of one of them. Around the world, ordinary life has been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in ways we could not have imagined just a few months ago. Stuck at home — quarantined, sheltering in place, self-isolated — many of us have stocked up on vital supplies to last us through this time of uncertainty and worry.
It’s clearer than ever that those vital supplies include not just food and water, medicines and disinfectants, but the resources we need to keep our imaginations nourished and healthy. So here’s our contribution: a survival kit with doses of literature, music, and art to inspire and soothe — drawn from new and recently published books, various online archives, and past and present projects by NGC Bocas Lit Fest authors and performers.
These items range from the consoling to the provocative, reminding us that the Caribbean and its people are resilient, generous, fierce, and beautiful: all qualities that help us survive these tough times and advance into the future.
