Biography
Nick Makoha was shortlisted for the 2017 Felix Dennis Prize for Best First Collection. His poems appear in anthologies such as Being Human, Seven New Generation African Poets, Ten: New poets from Spread the Word, and numerous magazines including The Poetry Review, Rialto, and the Boston Review. Nick Makoha fled Uganda’s civil war as a boy and has lived in Kenya and Saudi Arabia. He currently resides in London. His childhood hobby of poetry became a sense of vocation when he completed a degree in Biochemistry in the UK. He represented Uganda at Poetry Parnassus as part of the Cultural Olympiad held in London. A former Writer in Residence for Newham Libraries, his 1-man-Show My Father & Other Superheroes debuted to sold-out performances at 2013 London Literature Festival and is currently on tour. Nick published Kingdom of Gravity with Peepal Tree Press in 2017.
