St. Kitts-Nevis born Carol Mitchell wears several hats in the literary world. Her debut novel for adults, What Start Bad a Mornin’, was published in September 2023 by Central Avenue Publishing, and her short story collection A Good Haunting is forthcoming in Fall 2026 with Akashic Books. She has also published 19 books for children, three with HarperCollins UK, and 16 with CaribbeanReads Publishing, which she founded. She writes a Caribbean literature column for Cacique magazine. Her short stories and book reviews have appeared in several Caribbean and US journals. She was long-listed for the 2016 Burt Award for Caribbean Literature and short-listed for the 2021 Bocas Children’s Book Prize. Five of her short stories have been long-listed for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize. She teaches writing at George Mason University in Virginia.
