Bio

Her debut, multi prize-winning novel Golden Child  (Faber & Faber) was published in 2019 and translated into several languages. It was a Times and Evening Standard  ‘Book of the Year’, one of the BBC’s ‘100 novels that shaped our world’, featured on Radio 4’s ‘Book at Bedtime’, and winner of the Desmond Elliott Prize, the Authors’ Club First Novel Award, the McKitterick Prize 2020, the Barnes & Noble’s 2019 Discover New Writers Prize, Longlisted for the Jhalak Prize and the Edinburgh Festival First Book Award.  Trinidad-born Claire tutors on the Creative & Life Writing MA programme at Goldsmiths in London, and is at work on her second novel, set between Trinidad & Tobago, Britain and Venezuela.
