Bio

John Agard  Guyanese playwright, poet, and children’s writer living in Britain. He received the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry in 2012, The BookTrust Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021 and numerous prizes for his poetry, including the 1982 Casa de las Americas Prize for Pan Man. Accolades for his children’s writing include  the 1997 Paul Hamlyn Award for Poetry and the Poetry Society named New Poems for a New Century (2000) the Children’s Poetry Bookshelf Best Anthology. The Young Inferno (2008), a poetic reworking of Dante’s Inferno for young people, won the 2009 CLPE Poetry Award. His poetry collection The Coming of The Little Green Man was published in 2018. More recent work include his Windrush Child poem (Walker Books, 2022) and When Creature Met Creature (Scallywag Press, 2022).  Inspector Dreadlock Holmes and Other Stories is his first collection of fiction for adults (Hope Road, 2022)
