Biography

Shimiah Lewis is a twenty four year old UWI Sociology graduate. She was the 2013 recipient of the National Youth award in the field of performing arts and has been an active participant in the performing arts for twelve years. She is a four time semi-finalist, as well as a two time finalist at 

the First Citizens National Poetry Slam. She currently works alongside the 2 Cents Movement aiding persons in social awareness and social development through the art of spoken word poetry. Her goal is to use her knowledge of poetry to aid disenfranchised communities in aspects which affect young persons. She plans to change the world, by redefining the meaning of the word “ghetto”, removing its stereotype of obscenity, and transforming it into a word which conveys pride and success.
