The annual April children’s literature festival starts Saturday 6 April with storytelling events in Tobago and Eldorado.
Every Saturday during the month of April the KFC Bocas Children’s Storytelling caravan goes around the country treating children to some of the best, most anticipated storytelling events for 6-15 year olds.
Star storytellers Auntie Thea, Lylah Persad, Miguel Browne, Kurtis Gross, Dara Healy and Thelma Perkins are back on the road, from Couva and Mayaro, to Port Fortin and Port of Spain, via Chaguanas, San Fernando, Arima and Sangre Grande.
According to director of the children’s festival, Danielle Delon, “storytelling is our way of helping children to discover the joys of what lies between the covers of books – wonderful stories. And, what we get children to do is tell us stories too that are written down and put between covers, thereby demystifying books and helping them to discover the joy of reading books, including one that has their names in it.”
Festival founder, Marina Salandy Brown, added, “the storytelling workshops and all the other events such as the readings, writing workshops, the films, the art and the music that are on offer for children during April are nothing but a feast for their imaginations.”
Eight thousand copies of Children’s Stories from the Bocas Lit Fest 2011 have been distributed by KFC to children, schools and children’s libraries over the last year.
