11 May, 2020, is the 90th birthday of Kamau Brathwaite, the iconic Barbadian poet and scholar who died last February, and was the recipient of the 2020 Bocas Henry Swanzy Award for Distinguished Service to Caribbean Letters.
Across the Caribbean and around the world, lovers of Caribbean literature are using today’s anniversary to pay tribute to the legacy of this towering figure. We at the Bocas Lit Fest are joining in, too.
Visit our special Brathwaite at 90 page to see a special video in which 13 Caribbean writers read one of Brathwaite’s poems. You’ll also find information about other commemorative activities, and a curated list of Brathwaite resources online — from poems to interviews to tributes.
Happy birthday, Kamau Brathwaite, and thank you!
