More Than A Literary Festival

One-on-one feedback for emerging writers

As part of the 2012 festival programme, the NGC Bocas Lit Fest is offering fifteen emerging writers the chance to have their work critiqued by two expert readers:

• Ellah Allfrey, deputy editor of the renowned international journal Granta, based in London
• Mervyn Morris, poet and professor emeritus of West Indian literature and creative writing at UWI, Mona, Jamaica

During the festival, which runs from 26 to 29 April, 2012, Allfrey and Morris will meet with selected writers forshort but focused feedback sessions. This is an opportunity for ten serious writers of prose and five of poetry who have not yet published a full-length book, but have a credible and substantial body of work.

How to participate:

• Submit a sample of your best work (up to 1,500 words of prose OR up to 10 pages of poetry).

• Submit entries via email to [email protected]. Writing samples should be attached as .doc or .txt files, or as PDFs. Your email should have the subject line “one on one submission”.

• Submit work in only one category, prose or poetry.

• Entries must be accompanied by a short email with a brief biographical note listing the writer’s recent literary activity—writing workshops, prizes, magazine or journal publications.

• Deadline for submission is 23 March, 2012. Only writers who are selected for participation will be acknowledged.

• Critique sessions will take place during the festival at the National Library of Trinidad and Tobago, in Port of Spain. Exact date and time will be advised.
