2019 Festival

In the 9th year of the NGC Bocas Lit Fest we return with another action-packed programme of over 100 events.

Venue
The NGC Bocas Lit Fest takes place at the landmark National Library and adjoining Old Fire Station in downtown Port of Spain (corner of Hart and Abercromby Streets). At the heart of the capital, the entire block of the National Library is transformed into a vibrant Festival Village, including performances on two street arcades, booksellers’ stalls with hundreds of books on sale, and spaces to eat, drink, and relax. There are also satellite evening events at venues around the city and a special day of events for children at City Hall.

Dates
Wednesday 1 – Sunday 5 May 2019

Getting to the Festival and Parking
From Wednesday to Friday, there are free parking spaces designated for festival attendees at the parking lot at 50-52 Frederick Street (formerly Greyfriars Church), and Massy Properties Ltd. has sponsored limited parking at the Uptown Mall parking lot on Edward Street for festival volunteers. Parking tickets must be validated at the Festival Welcome Desk.

Drop taxi service is the festival ride share partner, offering festival attendees a 15% discount on their ride to/ from festival events by entering the discount code Bocas19 in the app when they book their ride.

There is free street parking on Saturday and Sunday in downtown Port of Spain.

If you’re visiting from abroad, email info@bocaslitfest.com to ask about our special rates at the festival hotels.

Booksellers & Vendors
Books by participating authors and others are on sale from official booksellers — Paper Based Bookshop, Metropolitan Book Suppliers, RIK Services Ltd — on the ground floor of the Library.

In addition to booksellers, the festival village showcases an array of talented local craftsmanship with goods on sale.

Programme
As usual, the programme includes workshops (which require pre-registration), readings, panel discussions, film screenings, open mic and more. Our line-up of writers and performers is already set, but writers interested in reading at the festival can sign up to be part of our Stand & Deliver open mic series.

Book signings
After readings, talks, and discussions, authors will be signing copies of their books at designated tables.

Eating and drinking
Beverages, sandwiches, and pastries are available from Rituals on the ground floor of the library, and a buffet lunch service is available on the ground floor of Old Fire Station (entry through patio area). Also in the Old Fire Station café, House of El Catering has healthy hearty salads. Locally made chocolates and all things cocao will be available at The Alliance of Rural Communities of Trinidad and Tobago booth, on the ground floor of the National Library.
