Renessa is a young artist and spoken word poet hailing from East Trinidad. She is currently pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Primary Education at the University of the Southern Caribbean. She is the eldest of 4 and hopes to fulfil the role of a good leader in her sibling's lives. Renessa began writing at the age of 9 years old and exploring the world of spoken word poetry in her early teen years. She has a profound love for literature and the arts, captivated by its nature and ability to be used as a form of self expression. She views the arts as a catalyst for change, having the ability to transcend the physical connect with persons on an emotional level. At current, she is employed at the Ministry of Social Development, where she enjoys working handson and being a part of a team that advocates human rights and helps to bring about change in peoples lives. After losing her mother to Domestic Violence, Renessa devotes her time to being a good mentor to her younger siblings, hoping to be the good model whose footsteps they choose to follow in. She is passionate about the artform because its created an avenue of expression for her and hopes that her work allow for persons to feel heard and encourages them to speak up, undersranding that they are not alone. She also believes that it is important to state your presence and hopes that her works is positively impacting and speaks for those unable to speak for themselves.
