Bio

Katherine Agyemaa Agard is a Trinidadian writer currently based in San Francisco. Her first book of colour is an auto-ethnography of the desire to, and subsequent refusal of, telling the story of oneself in binary terms to North American audiences. It begins with the account of a film never made, and continues with an exegesis of paintings that were made instead. It moves between varied narrative strategies and uses image and text to differentiate the kind of silence that preserves the hierarchies of colorism, misogyny and plantocracy from the silence that one must sit with to paint, to understand colour and to attempt to make anew.
