Child Abuse Is Not Ok

They say beating is a part of our culture,
part of who we are,

but the only thing beating does is leave emotional scars,

and bring back the past of our ancestors who we taken as slaves,

and whipped daily by masters, enraged.

Abuse and whipping was a form of plantation control

This is the trauma that our history holds.

Let’s be reminded this is not who we are,

though the roots of abuse runs deep in our past.

We must leave it there.

I declare!

That we get out of this colonial mindset and become aware,

That Child Abuse is Not ok.

There is something that I need to say,

Society needs to change,

and rearrange our mindsets.

to realize that children are valuable assets.

Do not forget that your future lies,

in the hands of a child,

who will someday grow up and have to find,

solutions that can be applied to redefine the world.

Please be advised,

That child abuse is not ok.

Whether it be physical, verbal, emotional or sexual,

the remnants of abuse are fundamental.

Our children need to be treated respectfully and gentle.

Safe in protective arms,

Away from those who can cause harm.

No child deserves to be molested,

Every child has a right to be protected.

All abusers need to be arrested.

Abuse can never be accepted.

Our children’s voices can not be neglected.

Parents, listen to your children,

Hear their cries,

Don’t disregard their stories as lies.

Wake up!

Open your eyes!

Get help for them,

It’s on you, they rely.

There are too many children out here traumatized from abuse,

and too many abusers free looking for their next victim to choose,

We all have to stand up against this issue,

Seek help and justice for the children

to reduce the high levels of abuse.

Remember the child is never to be blamed,

For their childhood innocence stripped away.

At the end of the day,

Child Abuse is never ok.
