More Than A Literary Festival

Announcing Survival Kit #1

NGC Bocas Lit Fest Survival Kit #1

As people across Trinidad and Tobago and around the world adapt to the COVID-19 “lockdown”, many have turned to books, music, and films to occupy their homebound hours. All of us at the NGC Bocas Lit Fest believe it’s vital to keep our imaginations nourished and healthy in these anxious times. So we’re pleased to announce the first in a series of online Survival Kits, with doses of literature, music, and art to inspire and soothe.

The first Survival Kit, for the month of April 2020, brings together stories, poems, music, and artwork by the festival’s past authors and performers, plus excerpts from new and forthcoming books.

These items range from the consoling to the provocative, reminding us that the Caribbean and its people are resilient, generous, fierce, and beautiful: all qualities that help us survive these tough times and advance into the future.

Among other offerings, readers will find fiction from writers Monique Roffey and Barbara Jenkins, poems by Funso Aiyejina, Vahni Capildeo, and Derek Walcott, plus links to music from Freetown Collective and Sharda Patasar, and artworks by Jackie Hinkson and Rodell Warner.

Future editions of the NGC Bocas Lit Fest Survival Kit will be released monthly through August 2020, while other online projects and events to promote writers and serve readers during the period of social distancing are being hosted by the NGC Bocas Lit Fest via our website and social media platforms.

Enjoy Survival Kit #1, look out for the second installment in May, and please do share with your friends and fellow lit-lovers!
